The DELL, USTC Alumni Platform hosted a memorable Iftar party on 13 March 2026 at the D-Block area of the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC). The event gathered many alumni from various batches of the Department of English Language and Literature (DELL), creating a lively atmosphere for reunion, reflection, and collaboration. Hundreds of alumni participated actively in the program, marking a significant milestone for the newly formed alumni platform. This gathering was notably the first ice-breaking event organized under the DELL, USTC Alumni Platform, aimed at reconnecting graduates and strengthening their professional and personal ties.

The event was made even more special by the presence of several distinguished faculty members from the department. Among them were the Honorable Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Dr. Gurupada Chakrabarty, and the respected Chairperson (Acting) of the Department of English, Ms. Shaila Binte Sattar. Assistant Professors Mr. Nurul Anwar and other faculty members from the department also attended and contributed to the event’s success through their presence and support. Their involvement reflected the strong bond between the department and its alumni and encouraged graduates to stay connected with their alma mater.

The program began with opening speeches from some of the senior alumni of the department. These alumni, now working in various government and private sectors, shared their professional experiences and offered valuable advice to the attendees. Their inspiring words motivated younger graduates and recent alumni to follow their dreams, stay committed to their goals, and continue improving their skills. The speakers highlighted the importance of persistence, networking, and keeping a lifelong connection with the department and fellow alumni.

After the alumni speeches, Ms. Shaila Binte Sattar gave an insightful talk on the value of building a strong alumni network. She praised the alumni’s initiative and encouraged them to organize more such programs in the future. Her remarks underlined how a solid alumni platform can significantly benefit both current students and graduates. Afterwards, Mr. Nurul Anwar shared his reflections on the importance of alumni engagement. He commended the organizers for creating such a meaningful gathering and urged participants to keep supporting the department through collaborative efforts.

As the evening went on, prayers were offered before breaking the fast. The spiritual atmosphere was enhanced by Islamic songs performed by Mr. Nabi, an alumnus from the 35th Batch. These performances added a cultural and spiritual element to the event, creating a warm and joyful setting for everyone.

Once the formal segments concluded, attendees were served a variety of delicious foods for Iftar. This shared meal offered a perfect opportunity for alumni from different batches to interact, reconnect with old friends, and form new relationships. Many valuable conversations took place as participants exchanged experiences, professional insights, and ideas for future projects. The gathering helped alumni strengthen their networks and develop a sense of unity within the DELL community.

Following the Iftar, the program continued with an introduction session where alumni introduced themselves. This segment allowed participants to get to know one another and helped build stronger connections among the alumni community. The session was both engaging and informative, as many shared their current professional roles and achievements.

Toward the event’s end, Mr. Rayhan from the 5th batch proposed several ideas to strengthen relationships among alumni and organize future events. His suggestions focused on expanding the platform’s activities, encouraging regular communication among alumni, and planning programs that would benefit both graduates and current students. After his presentation, other alumni shared their ideas and suggestions, which were well received.

A key outcome of the gathering was the selection of batch representatives from various cohorts. These representatives will play an important role in expanding the alumni platform and keeping communication open among graduates. Discussions also took place about forming an ad hoc committee soon. This committee’s main goal will be to formalize the platform’s structure and eventually establish it as the official DELL, USTC Alumni Association.
