Amit Datta is a lecturer in the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), having joined the institution in 2023. Prior to this, he worked as a Laboratory Research Officer on an NIH-funded project with Johns Hopkins University and served as a Research Assistant in the Functional Genomics and Proteomics Laboratory at the University of Chittagong. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also led a COVID-19 testing laboratory team for more than two years, where he trained volunteers in molecular detection of SARS CoV-2 and biosafety maintenance.
Amit earned his M.Phil. from the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Chittagong, following his B.Sc. and M.S. degrees from the same department.
Amit is experienced in genetic and molecular research, with a focus on genetic polymorphisms, epigenetic changes and the molecular mechanisms of underlying conditions like cardiovascular disease, autism spectrum disorder and systemic lupus erythematosus. He is also interested in molecular cloning and transgenic plant development. His research has been published in respected journals such as Scientific Reports, Toxicology Reports, and Molecular Immunology. He has also presented his work at numerous national and international conferences. Amit’s research achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the University of Chittagong MPhil Research Fellowship and the National Science and Technology Fellowship.
